Jim Develin – New England Patriots: Super Bowl Story

Titan Scouting – Players in the Game

The road to the NFL is a journey of relentless pursuit. It is the ultimate goal of many young men to play on the biggest stage in the greatest game in sports, the Super Bowl. This year Jim Develin takes that stage yet again representing the New England Patriots and Titan Scouting at Super Bowl LI in Houston, Texas.

Develin’s road to the NFL was fraught with challenges but is also one of unbelievable perseverance, commitment and shear will power.

A Berks County Pennsylvania native, Jim, graduated from Brown University in 2009 and played as a defensive end on the Brown University Bears. After going undrafted in the 2010 NFL Entry Draft, Develin and his agent worked to get him an NFL deal. The odds are very difficult to get signed by an NFL team. Only 1.6% of all NCAA players make to a Major Pro team and those odds did not favor Develin, as he would go unsigned by a Major NFL team. He was however picked up by the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz of the Arena Football League (AFL) where he appeared in only one game.

From there Develin would join the Florida Tuskers of the UFL, where he would ultimately make his defining choice that played a major hand in him making it to the NFL. He converted from playing defensive line to the fullback position.

This is where his journey truly began. In 2010, Develin’s agent contacted Matt Roberts Director and CEO of Titan Scouting, known then as ProDynamix Athlete Marketing, to help market his client. Titan Scouting produced a professional scouting reel for Develin to help highlight his value to an NFL team. Develin’s agent used Titan Scouting to assist in digitally marketing his athlete and helped him gain broader exposure among the NFL elites.

The hard work and strategy paid off and on November 30, 2010 Develin got his first chance. The Cincinnati Bengals signed him to their practice squad where he would remain for the entire 2011 season.

As the life of practice squad players often go, the Bengals cut him on August 31, 2012, only a few weeks before the start of the season. However, this was a blessing in disguise for Develin. The scouting reel produced by Titan Scouting continued to get him the exposure he needed and a few days later, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots saw the talent that they needed in Develin and signed him to their practice squad on September 2, 2012.

“Know Your Goal”

After only a few months on the Patriot’s practice squad, Jim Develin finally made his NFL debut on December 16, 2012 against the San Francisco 49ers. In 2013 he would eventually be named the teams starting fullback out of training camp and appeared in the all 16 of the Patriots games. He wouldn’t just stop there, en route to the Patriots 2014 Super Bowl run; Develin caught a crucial pass from Tom Brady in the AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. This moment truly cemented Develin as a warrior. Through relentless hard work, he not only got to live out his dream playing professional football, but also got to score a touchdown in one of the biggest of games of his career.

That touchdown helped lead the Patriots to Super Bowl XLIX where they defeated the Seattle Seahawks and Jim Develin and The New England Patriots were crowned 2014 Super Bowl Champions.

Jim Develin’s story is one of struggle, perseverance and sheer will. Many athletes do not get the chance to play on the big stage, but now Jim has another opportunity to become a Super Bowl Champion this year at Super Bowl LI. Jim Develin is Titan Scouting’s first Super Bowl Champion and helps define our slogan “Know Your Goal”.

Along with Develin our other Titan Scouting Players In the Game are:

Mike Daniels – Defensive Tackle – Green Bay Packers

Theo Riddick – Running Back – Detroit Lions

Jonathan Grimes – Running Back – Houston Texans

All of these players received their marketing exposure and highlight production from the Titan Scouting and ProDynamix. It’s one thing to have the talent to make it to the professional ranks, but in this digital age it is also just as important to choose the correct way to market those unique skills. At Titan Scouting, we take great pride in working to get college and pro level exposure to athletes in all sports and help you “Know Your Goal”.
